How Enter Code Works
Understand the agent loop, built-in tools, and context management.
The agent loop
When you send a message, Enter Code runs an agent loop: understand the request, inspect context, choose tools, execute, observe results, and continue until the task is complete.
Built-in tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Read | Read files, PDFs, and images |
| Write | Create new files |
| Edit | Make targeted changes |
| Glob / Grep | Find files and search contents |
| Bash | Run shell commands |
| Agent | Spawn a sub-agent for parallel work |
| Skill | Invoke a skill by name |
| AskUserQuestion | Ask a clarifying question |
Context management
Skills, Memory, messages, tool outputs, and file changes are managed automatically. When context gets full, Enter Code compacts older turns while preserving key information.
Session persistence
Sessions are stored under ~/.enter/projects/{cwd}/sessions/, so you can resume after closing or recovering from a crash.
File change tracking
Every turn creates checkpoints so Rewind can restore code and conversation state together.
